EAST AVENUE STUBS

CAT Home Photo Index

The East Avenue Stubs are a 50+ year old political compromise benefiting both IDOT and the Village of Oak Park.

The state wanted ramps on just the east side of East Avenue because there was almost no reverse commute in the 1950s. Oak Park did not want more traffic on East Avenue. The compromise is the stubs, which allowed the state to add ramps later something that never happened. Ramps at East Avenue would be too close to both Harlem and Austin.
